Volunteer Types

Each volunteer is given the opportunity to list three committee preferences. You will be notified of your committee assignment once your volunteer application is complete. Positions are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Access Control

Work in conjunction with the corporate hospitality committee and the contracted security company to ensure championship guests have the proper credentials to enter various restricted areas.

Admission Sales & Will Call

Sell and issue daily tickets, manage will call function and check tickets/credentials at admissions gates. Welcome spectators, provide general information and distribute daily groupings and starting times. Collect and hold lost-and-found items.

Caddie Hospitality

COMMITTEE FULL - Handle caddie registration, distribution and collection of caddie bibs, and provide information as needed. Volunteers on this committee will not serve as caddies during the championship.

Corporate Hospitality

Act as liaison and host to corporate clients in various hospitality areas.

Laser Operators (Ball Position)

Assist through the use of computer-operated laser measuring devices to determine ball position information to record various aspects of player statistics including but not limited to each ball’s location on a hole, drive distance and distance to hole. May require the ability to climb ladders and operate from elevated platforms. Significant training and additional time commitments will apply. Previous experience, familiarity with technology, good eyesight and strong golf knowledge preferred.

Course Evacuation

Drive evacuation vans with players, caddies, officials and scoring volunteers from course to clubhouse during a suspension of play. Must be 25 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

Disabled Services

Provide assistance to spectators whose physical limitations prevent them from accessing the championship by escorting them via scooter rentals and shuttle cart rides. Six-passenger carts are used for this committee. Volunteer will need to be comfortable driving in crowds and turning around in limited space.

Golf Carts

COMMITTEE FULL - Control inventory and distribution of golf carts to authorized personnel. This committee functions pre and post championship.

Leader Boards

Operate manual leader boards and thru-boards at various sites throughout the course and post information received via handheld computer. May have to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms. Each committee member will assist with the placement of magnetic numbers and letters in the accurate placement as seen on the handheld device on each board


Serve as a marshal to ensure players are not disturbed during play and enforce crowd control and golf etiquette among spectators.


Assist with various functions inside Merchandise Pavilion such as operating cash registers and providing customer service. Staff merchandise check area for spectators to leave parcels that have been purchased in Merchandise Pavilion.

Office Administration

Assist with clerical work, answering phones, various public relations initiatives, and greeting visitors in Championship Office. Volunteers begin working in advance of the championship.

Player Operations

COMMITTEE FULL This committee is closed. Provide a broad range of concierge services to players. Assist in welcoming players and providing them with necessary credentials plus general information about the championship, club and surrounding area.

Product Distribution

Stock and deliver on-course refreshments to tee boxes and distribute groupings and starting times, and programs daily. May require heavy lifting.

Practice Areas

COMMITTEE FULL - Manage and control operation of practice range and all other practice areas. Duties include distributing practice balls by brand and placing the appropriate name placard to identify each player.

Program Sales

Responsible for selling the championship program on course during the week of the championship. This is a junior volunteer committee.

Standard Bearers

COMMITTEE FULL Responsible for carrying a two-sided scoring standard, which is a portable status board for posting players scores. This is a junior volunteer committee.


Control issuance of courtesy cars. Meet players, USGA officials and designated guests at airport and assist them with their transportation needs. Drive shuttle vehicles between hotels and course for players' family members, USGA officials and designated guests. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver's license. This committee functions pre and post championship.

Volunteer Headquarters / Orientation

Assist with preparations for volunteer training sessions during month prior to championship. Oversee uniform exchange for volunteers. Responsible for the operation of the volunteer hospitality tent during championship week. This includes managing distribution and sale of remaining volunteer uniform inventory during championship week. This committee functions pre championship.

Walking Scorers

COMMITTEE FULL. Record accurate hole-by-hole scores and statistics for each player in group and transmit this information to Scoring Central via handheld computer. Must have thorough knowledge of golf, be comfortable working with handheld computer and physically able to walk 18 holes at a steady pace regardless of weather conditions.
